Correcting Your PAN Card

With a massive system like PAN, mistakes are going to be made. Sometimes PAN cards are issued with incorrect information because the applicant has made mistakes on their initial form, and other times because errors have been made in processing. It’s important that the details on the PAN card match the details on your Aadhaar card so if your PAN card has mistakes on it, then you’ll need to take action to get it corrected. Luckily, this isn’t a complicated process.

Get Online

The easiest way of having a PAN corrected is to get online. However it’s important to bear in mind that if you’re asking for a PAN card to be reissued because of mistakes, the same fees apply for applying in the first place. It’s therefore in your own interests to make sure that you check your form carefully for mistakes – or get someone else to look for you - before submitting in the first place unless you want to pay the fee twice.

The same website is used for asking for a duplicate PAN card to be issued without any changes to the details, so make sure you read through the whole site before you start filling in details to make sure you are clear about which sections are applicable to your situation. If you’re unsure, check with the issuing authorities as if you fill in the wrong sections you may have to pay another fee for another application.

Making changes to the PAN card is easy, and the website will guide you through the process and indicate which fields need to be completed. The first thing you’ll need to fill in is your PAN number, which is clearly indicated on the top of your card. Once you’ve completed the basic details you’ll need to indicate which details are wrong, and prove what they should be corrected to. You cannot just request a change of the details on your PAN card without other documents showing the correct details.

If you are requesting a change of your name, date of birth or address on your PAN card, then select documents on the officially accepted list which do show your correct details to upload in support of your application for a change. These include passports, national identity cards, voters cards, utility bills, bank statements or credit card bills. If you are asking for a change of name because you have got married, then you can use your marriage certificate or a copy of your husband’s passport as your required evidence.
